Very useful player of many media types

Version: VLC Media Player 1.1.11
Played every type of video media I could find.
Not a pretty interface no skins available
Can t show the playlist and the video at the same time.
I downloaded it to play some video files from a super-cheap video camera I bought a couple years back. Windows Media player couldn t deal with it, without downloading some codec that I couldn t find. VLC plays it, no problem.
Then, I used it for other video formats.. wmv. mpg. rm. mp4. flv, etc. Plays them all. I especially like the keyboard controls and that it can still play audio in the faster speeds, so I can watch a stupid movie at 1.5x and save time.
VLC has crashed a few times on me. Whenever I try playing RealMedia files . rm and then try using the speed controls, VLC crashes. If I just watch it at regular speed, though, no problem. Maybe they ll have this fixed by the next version. All my other video players have crashed at times, too, so this isn t a killer for me.

Substance over style, but then that really isn t a con.
